UFIT Update

Decision Day: Friday, February 14 – Extraordinary System Loads This Week

On February 14, approximately 25,000 freshmen applicants receive UF’s admission decisions.  After 6 p.m. this Friday, students can go online and check to see if they are the newest Gators.

Decision Day brings an extraordinary increase of traffic to UF’s systems.  To prepare for this exceptional load, UFIT worked with UF’s Division of Enrollment Management to develop a new decision release system designed to open, control, and monitor traffic.  Due to heavy request volumes and demands on university systems, UFIT is asking that any non-urgent jobs and service requests be held until February 17, 2014.   If you encounter any systems issues this Friday, please call (352-392-HELP [4357]) or email the UF Computing Help Desk.

What a Fake Anti-Virus Attack Looks Like on a Trusted Website

UF’s Information Security Office suggests sharing this video link with department and unit faculty and staff.  It’s a great example of the types of tricks the bad guys use to fool users:

Windows XP Support Ends – April 8, 2014

On Tuesday, April 8, 2014, support and updates for Windows XP will no longer be available.  Microsoft has provided support with Windows XP for 12 years but as of 04/08/2014, technical assistance and automatic updates will cease to exist.  Faculty and staff with machines running Windows XP should consult with their local desktop support team to identify a solution.  Faculty and staff who have Windows XP as the operating system on personal devices should seek assistance/advice from the UF Computing Help Desk.

Phase II of myinvestiGator now Live

Phase II of myinvestiGator went live on Monday, January 27.   Enhancements include a new, more responsive interface, expanded search functionality, enhanced payroll and job information to better see who is getting paid on your grants, and the Graphical Analysis, which displays burn rates and expense trending so faculty can more easily track grant spending.  Human Resources’ Training and Organizational Development team created a video showing an overview of the new features.
