Dr. Carek Recognized for Career Contributions

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Peter Carek for being selected as the recipient of the 2019 Thomas W. Johnson Award for Career Contributions to Family Medicine Education by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). This award recognizes outstanding contributions to family medicine education in undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education spheres. This award is the highest honor presented by the AAFP. In order to be considered for this award, a nominee must have:

  • Developed and implemented innovative curriculum, teaching model(s), or program(s), and engaged in local, state, and national or international educational initiatives
  • Participated in and led academic medical organizations
  • Attained national recognition for their work in the field of Family Medicine

Dr. Carek earned this award for his tireless devotion to furthering the field of Family Medicine. Throughout his career, he has served as the Chair of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Review Committee for Family Medicine, the Sports Medicine Milestone Working Group, and the Council of Review Committee Chairs. Dr. Carek also worked closely with the ACGME to improve the education of Family Medicine physicians on a national level. Additionally, his dedication to quality improvement motivated him to organize an annual statewide symposium for resident research in Family Medicine, publish scholarly research on Family Medicine education, and lead more than 200 presentations for national and international medical organizations.

Dr. Carek has been invited to receive his award at the 2019 Congress of Delegates in Philadelphia, PA.
