Olgert Bardhi Receives 2019 Carey R. Barber, M.D. Scholarship

Congratulations to Olgert Bardhi for receiving the 2019 Carey R. Barber, M.D. Scholarship for Depression Awareness and Suicide Prevention. Bardhi is a 2nd year medical student at the University of Florida and was presented the award by Richard and Syble Eads at the College of Medicine Honors Convocation on September 16, 2019.

Dr. Carey R. Barber was a beloved Family Medicine faculty member at the University of Florida who suffered a long battle with depression. This scholarship was created as a tribute to his many contributions to the Family Medicine department and the community in an effort to bring help to others suffering from depression. Every year, one medical student is selected to receive this award in hopes that one day we will end the stigma surrounding providers’ depression. The award is presented to a student who has demonstrated interest in pursuing Family Medicine as a career, who has promoted the goal of suicide prevention, and who has worked to improve awareness of the debilitating effects of depression.
